Clyde River Catchment Management Plan
Overview
This plan has been agreed upon by all stakeholders, based on good science and indeed put in place to protect the environment in the event of extreme circumstances, such as those of the present time.
Lakes Sorell and Crescent, together with their significant wetlands and aquatic beings, are in peril from inappropriate use of the Clyde system in addition to long drought conditions. The release of water for irrigation purposes, is likely to ensure that ecological damage will become a permanent feature of this once great waterway and the years of significant work based
on science, made irrelevant.
A lobby group of irrigators is now seeking to get the Minister, Mr. David LLewellyn, to release water for irrigation and in clear breach of the Clyde River Catchment Management Plan, which all parties including irrigators, signed off on.
