Projects Overview update 28th September 2007

Completed/Funded Projects

AAT now has three projects completed:Brumby's Creek Access Plan

  • Arthurs Lake web cam completed at a cost of $14,000;
  • Brumbys Creek Access Programme opened by the Hon. Eric Abetz Minister for Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry on the 25th August at a cost of $38,000 plus a special thanks to Hydro Tasmania for their special weed eradication amounting to over $65,000 and improvements to facilities at Penstock Lagoon amounting to some $140,000 and
  • RFDP Marketing Plan Implementation is now reality with the winning of a grant from AusIndustry of $335,000 which when added to support from our partners enables a marketing plan of over $700,000 over the next three years. (details are under the RFDP). This plan aims to attract another 5000 licensed anglers of which 3000 are local and 2000 visitors from outside Tasmania.

Minor Projects

Current minor, but no less important projects, being developed or undertaken are:

Recreational Lakes Committee

We have been working with Hydro Tasmania for some time to form this Committee and can report that this is now a working group. Members of the Committee are:

  • Hydro Tasmania,
  • MAST,
  • IFS,
  • Tourism Tas,
  • Sport and Rec,
  • Parks and Wildlife and
  • AAT.

We are presently deciding whether to invite others on a permanent basis or just as their particular interests arise. Others will be invited to have input as appropriate or for special expertise.

Our first project, Penstock Lagoon is well underway and we have decided that the upper Derwent will be the next. This will include:

  • from Lake St Clair Lagoon and Horne's, Mossy Marsh, Pump Pond and Bronte/Brady's chain flows to Tarraleah and
  • Little Pine Lagoon through Echo and the Dee, again as far as Tarraleah.

A full consultation programme will be conducted.

Water flows and Lake Levels

Lake water levels and qualities are under constant revue by the Hydro and IFS and work is presently being conducted at Bronte, Laughing Jack, Little Pine, Dee Lagoon, Lake Echo and Lagoon of Islands.

ALL ANGLERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE GOVERNMENT’S MOVES TO IMPLEMENT NEW WATER MANGEMENT REGIMES AND HOW THIS COULD AFFECT TASMANIA’S ENVIRONMENTAL FLOWS.

AAT WOULD WELCOME YOUR INPUT INTO THIS POTENTIALLY MAJOR ISSUE.

"Through the representation of all anglers, ensure the realisation and maintenance of the full potential of the fishery."
