IAN FRENCH

1924–2009

Ian began his love of fishing on the Gawler River at the age of six. He was a founding member of the Railton branch of the North Western Fisheries Association, along with the Tasmanian Trout Fishing Championships. He went on to join the Ulverstone Angling Club, where he became President, Hatchery Manager and association delegate. He was awarded Life Membership of the branch in 2003. From 1975 until 1984 he was Associate Commissioner, becoming government appointee during his term. From 1992 until 1994 he was President of the Australian Freshwater Assembly, travelling throughout Australia representing the angling fraternity. Ian was Secretary of the Freshwater Anglers Council of Australia and a long time Secretary of the Highland shack owners body that greatly assists anglers having shacks in the Central Highlands. In 1978 Ian was awarded Life Membership of the North Western Fisheries Association for servies rendered, but went on to serve and represent anglers until his passing in 2009.
