Les was eight years old when he first went fishing with his dad in the Emu River, and from that day forward he was hooked. Les played an instrumental role in recreational fishing in Tasmania, holding many positions including Ulverstone Angling Branch President, Hatchery Manager and Life Member, North Western Fisheries Association Secretary, Junior and Senior Vice President, Life Member and Patron, Fresh Water Angling Council of Tasmanian delegate, World Heritage Committee representative, founding member of the Tasmanian Trout Fishing Championships, Associate Commissioner, member of Inland Fisheries Advisory Council.
