MORTON ALLPORT

1830–1878

Noted naturalist and photographer. Member of The Salmon Commissioners from 1861 until his death. If it was not for his forward thinking we would never have trout in Tasmania as he pushed for including trout ova in the first successful shipment. Partly responsible with Robert Officer for the garden layout at the Salmon Ponds. Held one of the first angling licences issued in Tasmania. Introduced redfin perch to Tasmania. Awarded the Silver Medal from the Acclimatisation Society of Victoria. Vice President Royal Society Tasmania 1870–1878.
