SIR ROBERT OFFICER

1800–1879

Foundation member of the Royal Society of Tasmania and Chairman of The Salmon Commissioners from 1861 until his death. Showed enormous interest and enthusiasm for the experiment of the first shipment. Responsible for sourcing funds to carry out early shipments. He was responsible with Morton Allport for the layout and plantings of the gardens at the Salmon Ponds. Awarded the Silver Medal from Acclimatisation Society of Victoria for his efforts in the first successful hatchings at Plenty.
