Historic induction into the Tasmanian Angling Hall of Fame

For the first time in its history a woman will be inducted into Tasmanian Angling Hall of Fame in 2023.

Sheryl Thompson was chosen following a selection process by Anglers Alliance Tasmania. The selection committee were impressed by the Sheryl’s achievements: over four decades of demonstrated accomplishments in the sustainability and protection of our freshwater fisheries; as an outstanding advocate of angling; nurturing participation into fishing as a recreational sport for juniors and families; fostering female participation in leadership roles within organisations; and demonstrating commitment and drive to all that she undertook within the angling fraternity.

Minister for Primary Industries, Hon. Jo Palmer MLC, will formally present Sheryl’s induction at the Inland Fisheries Service Trout Weekend at Liawenee, this Saturday.

Membership of the Angling Hall of Fame is the pinnacle of achievement for an individual’s contribution towards the betterment of freshwater angling in Tasmania. It also represents the highest level of peer recognition for their achievement.

Anglers Alliance Tasmania is excited for the 2023 Tasmanian Angling Hall of Fame induction and invite anyone with an interest in fishing, or our natural environment, to come along and enjoy the presentation.

The Tasmanian Angling Hall of Fame is situated on the grounds of the Salmon Ponds at Plenty. The Hall of Fame is managed by Anglers Alliance Tasmania. Nominations for induction into the Hall of Fame are invited on a bi-annual basis. The AAT website has dedicated information about Hall of Fame induction criteria and reference of past inductees.

Anglers Alliance is the overarching body providing input on behalf of clubs, associations, and independent anglers for the Tasmanian recreational freshwater fishery for almost two decades.

The Inland Fisheries Tasmania Service Annual Trout Weekend celebrates the wild brown trout spawning run in Tasmania’s highlands, and is fun for all ages. It is the perfect opportunity for our 2023 Hall of Fame induction.
