DOUGLAS LESLIE BRIDGES

1910–1999

Doug was the Treasurer of the Southern Tasmanian Licensed Anglers’ Association from 1940 until 1969. He later served as Patron of the Association from 1976 until 1997. He took over the family sporting goods store in Hobart and managed it for over 50 years. Doug was an Inland Fisheries Associate Commissioner from 1971 until 1983. He was instrumental in setting up the Liawenee Field Station and also moved to have the Inland Fisheries Commission more scientifically orientated. He sponsored numerous angling events including the annual Swansea bream fishing competition. A keen angler, Doug frequented both Arthurs Lake and Lake Pedder to enjoy his sport.
